Eynesbury Rovers v HISTON

Kick Off 7:45pm

The Stutes take to the pitch for the second time in just three days, as Lance Key’s side make the short trip west to The Alfred Hall Memorial Ground.

Coming off the back of Tuesday’s home defeat at the hands of Easington Sports The Stutes will be keen to get back to winning ways against a Rovers side who have only won one of their last nine league fixtures. Despite this run of poor form our hosts currently sit 8 points and two places above the drop zone and the recently relegated sides Rothwell Corinthians and Long Buckby.

When the two sides met last on Boxing Day, Histon were able to claim all three points, albeit by a slender margin. Despite conceding an own goal deflected in from a free-kick, a powerful Max York header drew the sides level on the stroke of half time. The decisive touch came thanks to Marcus Cole just before the hour mark. He had the composure to round the oncoming goalkeeper and finish from a tight angle to send the home fans into raptures.

Our hosts come into this evening’s game off the back of a narrow 4-3 defeat at Rugby Town on Saturday. A further loss, however Manager Neil Morris would no doubt have been encouraged at pushing a side that still house slim hopes of winning the league title. Leading scorer Victor Osobu collected a brace, whilst veteran midfielder and former Stutes loanee Ben Farrell was also on the scoresheet. Osobu has 11 goals thus far, whilst Tom Rowley and Ben Farrell sit just behind on 9 and 8 goals respectively.

With the previously scheduled U18 fixture that had also been set for this evening being postponed, Stutes boss Lance Key will again have the opportunity to include a whole host of youngsters who have faired very well when called upon. The experience that these players have gained from Step 5 football will have proved invaluable as Alfie Oakman’s Youth Team look to hone in on their own league title. It remains to be seen whether striker Connor Barnes will be available after he was substituted in Tuesday’s loss, having been involved in a collision with the opposing goalkeeper. Otherwise, it is likely to be a similar side that shall take to the field once again.
