HISTON v Aylestone Park

United Counties League Premier Division South
Saturday 23rd March 2024, kick-off @ 2.00pm

We’re back at Bridge Road again today for the visit of title-chasing Aylestone Park as we look to make it five home wins on the bounce and eight unbeaten in the league against a side who are themselves six unbeaten and chasing down Wellingborough Town for top spot and automatic promotion to Step 4. This is going to be a big one as the top two form sides in the division face off as we enter the final few weks of the season.

We’ve already met twice this season with the first of those coming on Day 1 when despite taking a two-goal lead we were pegged back before The Reds took all three points from a 3-2 win. We then met again in October in the League Cup, this time at Bridge Road where the visitors were again victorious thanks to a 4-1 win and since then they have gone on to push themselves into the title reckoning.

Things have changed at Bridge Road since then though, Chris Nunn took over as manager less than a week after that last meeting and has been steadily putting together a young side that are showing lots of promise and getting results as well. Tuesday night’s win over Bugbrooke St Michaels was the latest in that run and will be remembered for Matt Hayden’s hat-trick and in particular, that third goal that is surely a goal-of-the-season contender (you can watch the highlights here if you haven’t seen them already).

The Manager will need to make a change or two to his starting line up though after midfielder Joe Sutton joined the lengthy list of injured senior players on Tuesday night when he came off early in the game with a calf problem but others are getting close to a return and may be ready to feature.

Our Burger Bar will be closed again tomrrow but hot food will be provided by Cambridge Hog Roast whose mobile unit will be on site throughout the day.

Kick-off is at 2pm and turnstiles open at 12.30.
