Ladies First Team Campaign Gets Underway

Having had to wait an additional week, our Ladies First Team begin their competitive league campaign on Sunday. Once again they shall see action in the Cambridgeshire Women’s and Girls League Division One.

With pre-season having come to a close Manager, Kevin Jacklin informs us as to how his side are getting on.

“Histon Ladies are looking forward to playing their first League game of the season, this coming Sunday 18th September. We are at home to against Fulbourn Bluebirds in the Alan Boswell Group,  Cambs Ladies League Division One, 2pm ko. The Development Team are set to get their season underway in a weeks’ time.

“Pre season training started in early July, with 5 friendly games being played leading up to the to the start of the new season. The friendlies have included a mixture of First, and Development Team players in order to assess the playing squads available.

Results have been as follows:

Peterborough United Development (H) 2-2  D

Cambridge United Development  (A)  2-7 L

Eaton Socon (A) 3-0 W

Hertford Town (A) 7-4 W

Frontier Ladies (H) 3-1 W

“3 wins, a draw, and one loss is a decent set of results for pre season. The Cambridge United result does not reflect the good football that we played in that game, and if it had not been for at least 3 or 4  long distance goals of the season, the result would have been much closer and would be a much truer reflection of the game.

“A number of new players have joined the club and the existing players have made the new ones feel very welcome. We will be announcing squads shortly with photos, so supporters can put faces to names.

“Tara Fitzjohn will remain as First Team captain, whilst Kevin Jacklin and Matt Payne will be in charge of the side on Sunday. Kevin Knock and Keith Carter will oversee the Development Team. The Development Team will play their home games at Comberton Village College, whilst the First Team will again call Bridge Road home.

“Overall, we are excited for the season ahead for Histon Ladies and our quest to gain promotion back to the Eastern Region League. Supporters will be made very welcome if they would like to come and watch the Ladies, entry is free of charge.”
