HULLBRIDGE SPORTS v HISTON POSTPONED

**Today’s game at Hullbridge has been POSTPONED due to a waterlogged pitch.**
Tomorrow afternoon we head back out to Essex where we’ll take on Hullbridge Sports at Lower Road.
After their spectacular 7-0 away win on the opening day at Witham things have settled down a bit for the Sports and, rather like ourselves, have played most of their opening games away from home. Their only league match on their own pitch coming earlier this month when Tilbury won 2-1.
Lance will want to get back to winning ways after Tuesday’s disappointing result against Romford at the Bridge. The gaffer will have been pleased to see midfielder George Coy return to action from the bench in that game and will hope tat the side’s impressive away form so far this season can keep us well placed in the table after Saturday’s game.
Skipper Max York had this to say ahead of tomorrow’s game, “A 190mile round trip last weekend was completely worth it, coming away as we did with the 3 points. After a tough start and going 1-0 down early on, we seemed to get our foot firmly in door by responding and starting the game well. Windy conditions made the game a bit tougher for both sides but we used it to our advantage and threw a lot at them over the first 45 minutes. An early goal for them followed by their keeper keeping them in the game making 3-4 good saves but we eventually got one back to make it 1-1 from Zuks. From there we gained momentum and had a big spell on the ball and dominating the game. Going into half time at 2-1 we felt fairly comfortable and confident.
After the break, again after a good passage of play we took our lead to 3-1 with Dawks getting his second. We always seem to be our own worst enemy though and we let them back into the game with an own goal and then a free kick just outside the box. This made it 3-3 but we still dominated possession and responded well with Rolphy putting us back in the lead. We spent 20 minutes holding onto our lead while having to defend our lines but we dug in well and soaked up whatever they threw at us. To go all that way and get the 3 points points is what we’re about and what we can do.
Another big week brought Romford to Bridge Road with us looking to sort out our home form this season. We started very well and could have possibly put the game to bed early doors. A solid first half, doing everything but put the ball in the back of net brought us into the second half where the game opened up more so. A game of mixed possession from both teams unfortunately resulted in them breaking the deadlock. We brought one back from a goalkeeping error that Charlie poached away but we couldn’t add to that goal with Romford replicating what we’ve done for so many games and defending their lines well and after scoring another holding out for the win. It was a shame after the highs of the weekend but our home form is something for us to rectify over the next 10days.”
