Uhlsport United Counties League, Premier Division South

HISTON v Godmanchester Rovers

Kick Off 2PM

Match Sponsored by Mark Pyatt

We welcome local rivals Godmanchester Rovers to Bridge Road on Saturday (Kick Off 2PM), as The Stutes look to extend their winning run to 4 games. Meanwhile visiting Goddy will no doubt be glad to get back in action, as they have not played a United Counties League fixture since way back on Saturday November 26th. That afternoon Rovers comfortably dispatched bottom side Long Buckby 3-0.

Goddy come to The Bridge with a number of familiar faces within their ranks. Manager, Dean Greygoose spent a part of the 2009/10 season as Assistant to John Beck, whilst his current Assistant Dan Gleeson had two short spells here in 2015/16 and again in the second half of the 2016/17 season. On the pitch, Matty Allan has proven to be a threat having scored 17 times in his 25 appearances for Rovers this term. Recently the experienced Rob Ruddy moved to Bearscroft Lane in order to shore up Goddy’s backline.

Our visitors currently occupy 14th spot in the division, having claimed 13 points from their 13 games thus far. Dean Greygoose’s side do have games in hand on every other side, no doubt hoping to press on toward mid-table before long. The aforementioned Allan leads the line, whilst the experienced Declan Rogers has 7 goals to his name. Also within their possession are the important duo of Tom Spark and Richard Chadwick will look to assist Ruddy in keeping Lance Key’s side at bay.

Within their 13 league fixtures, Rovers have collected 3 victories. The first of these came back on August 28th as MK Irish were defeated 1-0, before next time out they saw home side Bugbrooke St Michaels off 3-0 on the road. Goddy had to wait until November 26th for their most recent 3 points when Long Buckby conceded 3 times without response.

Stutes boss, Lance Key will be desperate for his side to continue their run of form, which now sees them within arms reach of the top 4. Whilst The Stutes have played more games than most sides around them, recent results have no doubt turned the heads of those occupying spots above them. A dogged display was on show on Boxing Day, as despite going a goal down the side rallied thanks to goals from the head of Max York and a deft chip from Marcus Cole. Further chances went begging as the game went on, yet a deserved 3 points were to be gained. Unfortunately, Sam Collison picked up a knock in this clash, with his fitness to be determined. Luke Lindsay and Dan Brown continue to get closer to their return to action, whilst in their absence Connor Barnes and most recent addition Ryan Henry will look to lead the forward line, with Luke Crisp likely to enter the fray once again, having made a return on Boxing Day from the bench.

There shall be a collection on behalf of Cancer Research UK at Saturday’s fixture, which is being co-ordinated by Tracey Love who acts as a Matchday Steward. Tracey works for the charity and would very much appreciate your support and donations as you enter Bridge Road for a most worthy cause!

A reminder that Kick Off is at the earlier time of 2PM.
