Bridge Road is the place to be this coming Saturday afternoon when Matt Payne and Mark Critoph’s high-flying Stutes take on the league’s bottom side Bugbrooke St. Michaels.  After seeing off Northampton ON Chenecks last weekend, this will be the second of our December trilogy of home games with the third being against Huntingdonshire side Eynesbury Rovers on the day after Boxing Day.

But before we start looking ahead to the challenging game against an Eynesbury side that is likely to include several former Histon players, we will be taking a ‘one game at a time’ approach to this Saturday’s game.  Bugbrooke are likely to present a different kind of challenge compared to the teams we met during our recent run of tough fixtures as they are currently struggling at the wrong end of the league table.  In fact, the Badgers are currently the Premier South’s bottom side, ten points adrift of the club they need to catch if they are to avoid relegation.

The Badgers have been particularly poor on the road this season, failing to pick up a single point in any of their away games.  The omens are not looking good for them on Saturday either as they have lost on all four of their previous visits to Bridge Road.  But these Badgers are not the fluffy, lovable creatures we find in our gardens and undergrowth late at night – they are a dangerous wounded animal fighting for their lives in the United Counties League, desperate to pick off any side that fails to take them seriously or thinks they are easy meat.  It is not long ago that they surprised Moulton by beating them 3-2 after only taking one point from their previous nine games, and Moulton are a more than decent side.

We are likely to be without Danny Gould this weekend after he picked up a knee injury in our win over Chenecks last weekend.  After getting their team selection spot on in our last two games, M&M will need to decide who to bring in cover for Danny, although several options are available.

Better news for our management team is that Joe Greenslade-Cross is now getting close to full fitness after suffering a debilitating rib injury back in early October.  All being well, Joe is likely to be available for selection early in the New Year.

Admission on Saturday will be at the usual rates of £10 for adults, £6 concessions, £2 for 12 to 17-year-olds and accompanied under 11s are admitted free of charge.  The club bar will be open from 12.30 and food bar serving hot and cold snacks will be open all afternoon.  A selection of Histon merchandise will also be available for those last-minute Christmas presents and the matchday programme will be available at just £2.00.

Whatever the outcome on Saturday, the Stutes will be in the top three on Christmas Day, giving us all good reason to raise a glass to Histon FC and the Histon football community.  Be part of our 2025/26 season and give the lads the gift of your support this Saturday.

Saturday’s game is sponsored by Colin Barnes Builders and the match ball is sponsored by Benjamin Jones & David Fordham.
