Our first home game of 2025 didn’t quite go the way we wanted last weekend, but we don’t have to wait long to go again on our home soil.  The defeat against St Neots Town, in front of a very healthy crowd of over 300 fans, was the first in a run of three consecutive First team home games at Bridge Road, all of which offer their own unique challenges.  This Saturday, it is the turn of Leicester Nirvana who come in search of valuable league points to help lift them further away from the foot of the table.

While Nirvana’s league position doesn’t suggest they are in any imminent danger of relegation, they will be keen to avoid a repeat of their end of season survival dramas of last season.  They’ve had their ups and down this campaign but are not a side that Nunny and his team will want to take lightly.  Their two away wins this season include possibly the shock of the season when they won 1-3 at Aylestone Park in December.  The other was a 2-6 demolition job on Bugbrooke St Michaels back in October.  In contrast, they conceded five goals at Rugby Borough, four at Daventry and Sileby Rangers, five more at both Hinckley and Coventry United, and leaked six at St Neots.

Saturday’s game will be only the second time Leicester Nirvana have been to CB24.  The previous occasion was in October of last season in Chris Nunn’s first home match as Histon manager.  The game ended in a 1-0 home win, but it will be a very different Stutes side that takes to the field at 2.00pm this Saturday.  Only two of the starting lineup from October 2023 are still at the club, with that honour going to our current top scorer Connor Barnes and the evergreen Max York.

The Histon Hornets are our guests as mascots on Saturday, so we can anticipate plenty of vocal support for the Stutes from around the ground and longer queues than usual at the burger bar.  The turnstiles will be open from 12.30 with the early Premier League game showing on the TV in the club bar.  Entry is at the usual rate of £10 for adults, concessions £6 and Under 17s £2.  Accompanied Under 12s are admitted free.  The match sponsors are Sun Skips to whom we bid a warm welcome.

Get behind your village team this Saturday and help us move on up the United Counties League.
