HISTON v Rugby Borough

United Counties League Premier Division South
Saturday 11th November 2023, kick-off @ 2.00pm

Back to league action tomorrow with the visit of Rugby Borough to Bridge Road as we look to make it three unbeaten in the league and build on Tuesday’s win at Ely City in the CFA Invitation Cup.

Borough have had a pretty good start to their first season at Step 5 following successive promotions and are 13th in the table at the moment with 17 points from 16 games. They have had some notable results in recent weeks, notwithstanding last Saturday’s 0-3 reverse at home against league leaders Wellingborough Town. That was preceeded by a remarkable 5-5 draw at Aylestone Park and before that a creditable 0-0 draw with promotion-chasing Racing Club Warwick and a 3-2 home win over Yaxley, another promotion hopeful.

Chris will be able to call on a couple of players who have been missing recently as Jim Burnside completed his two-game suspension in midweek and is available again whilst Miles Smith has recovered from a groin injury and should also be available. Ed Rolph missed out on Tuesday but is also expected to be back whilst new midfielder Lene Burden will be in the squad as well, although fellow new arrival Ellis Leka picked up a knock in last Saturday’s friendly at St Neots and is a doubt.

One player that definitely won’t be involved for us this weekend is Dan Brown after the 33 year-old striker completed a move to Ely City on Thursday. Browny scored 64 times for us in 161 appearances across two spells after making his debut in a Histon shirt against Thetford Town in March 2018. Our thanks go to Dan for everything he did for the club over the years and we wish him every success in the future on and off the pitch.

This weekend is also Remembrance weekend and we will be observing a minute’s silence before kick-off in the company of the Histon branch of the Royal British Legion, who will be with us to lead the Remembrance Ceremony and collect for the Poppy Appeal.

The Bar and Burger Bar will both be open as usual too with cash and contactless payment available at both.  Live Premier League games will be on both before and after the game in the bar so why not come on down a bit early and stay a bit late! The Burger Bar is supplied by Histon Chop Shop whose burgers and sausages are hand made to order for the club whilst we also offer Pukka Pies, as well as chips (of course!).

Turnstiles open at 12.30pm and remember it’s a 2pm kick-off!
