After three weeks without a competitive game, we hit the road again this Saturday looking to maintain our impressive away record and bring home three more valuable points.
We have not been beaten away from home for over three months, collecting wins against several of the league’s top sides along the way, but our focus is now on the game at Northampton Sileby Rangers this coming Saturday kicking off at 3pm.
Sileby Rangers are having a disappointing season and are currently fourth from bottom in the league table, seven points above the relegation places. However, no game in the UCL is easy and this one is no exception. We’ve heard it said over and over again that anyone can beat anyone else in this league and Sileby Rangers are the proof of that. Despite their struggles, they have lost only one of their last five home games and in their last league game against Atherstone Town they were 2-3 up after 90 minutes, only to suffer the heartbreak of conceding two goals in added time. Given their desperate need for points to pull away from the league’s drop zone, they will clearly be no push-over for any side for the remainder of the season.
With neither Sileby or ourselves playing last weekend, and our previous game at Leicester Nirvana being postponed (now re-scheduled for Sat 18th April), match fitness could become an issue for some players on Saturday. That will not be the case however for young Theo Goddard, who got valuable match experience playing two games for Newmarket Town last week on a dual-registration basis. Our midfield dynamo will be back with us again on Saturday and for the remainder of the 2025/26 season as we look to secure a place in the end of season play-off.
We were 3-1 winners at Sileby Rangers last year and two goals from Danny Baulk gave us a win when we met at Bridge Road earlier this season. A third successive victory over Sileby will undoubtedly be a timely boost ahead of our massive home game against Aylestone Park the following Saturday, particularly as we have now slipped to fourth place in the table following Coventry United’s run of seven straight wins.
Despite being founded by a Leicestershire-based engineering company, Sileby play their home games at the O’Riordan Bond Stadium, Talavera Way, Northampton NN3 6FR, which is 52 miles from Bridge Road. It is probably the prettiest ground we will visit all season and has excellent food and bar facilities. There is plenty of free car parking available but be sure to enter the ground by following the signs on Talavera Way as no other entrances are open on matchdays. Admission to the game will cost you £6 or £3 for concessions.
If you just can’t wait until Saturday to get your Histon FC fix, our all-conquering Under 18s have a league game against Bury Town Under 18s on Thursday night at Bridge Road. Bury Town are also undefeated this season so this one could prove to be a challenging contest for Lee Keen’s youngsters. Your support for the boys will be greatly appreciated.
