News has reached us this week that 17-year-old midfielder Theo Goddard has been selected for the England Schoolboys squad.

Accompanied by his father, Wayne, Theo attended a trial held in Shrewsbury the day after he played a key role in our win at Nuneaton Town.  He went up against a few dozen other hopefuls from all over the country, competing in several trial matches throughout the day before travelling home on Sunday evening.  The following day, a text message was received from the FA saying that he had been chosen for the final 20-man squad for the 2025/26 season.  Needless to say, our congratulations go to Theo and his family on his achievement in gaining such recognition after what has already been an eventful and traumatic year for the Cottenham Village College student.

The England Schoolboys squad has a match against Wales provisionally arranged for the not-too-distant future.  While this means that we might have to manage without his invaluable contributions in our midfield engine room for a game or two, this will be more than adequately compensated by the pride and elation we will all share when seeing him wearing the three lions badge on his chest.

Congratulation Theo, and good luck when international duty calls later this season.
