We face arguably our toughest test of the season so far on Tuesday night when we make the short trip to March Town United in hunt of three more league points. After our win at Atherstone Town on Saturday, this game takes on significant importance for Matt, Mark and the team as we look to leapfrog the Hares into third place in the table and send out a message to the rest of the UCL Premier South.
March currently occupy the much-coveted third place in the table after making a seriously impressive start to their league campaign, but with just one point separating us at present, there is plenty more to play for on Tuesday night than just local bragging rights.
For March, it will be a second top-of-the-table clash in four days after playing fourth placed Moulton last Saturday. March won that one to record their fourth successive win, but they have been fallible on their own turf this season, having lost to both Newport Pagnell and Oadby Town in the league and to Gorleston and Gresley Rovers in the FA Cup and UCL League Cup respectively.
In contrast, the run of form the Stutes are on at present could hardly be any better. Six successive victories and 19 points from a possible 21 has seen us rise from sixteenth in the table to fifth, and we have lost just one game away from home all season.
The game will be the second meeting between the two sides this season, the previous one being in late July when we drew 2-2 at Bridge Road. Alex Stevens-Lee and Tom Binder gave us the lead on the night, but March pegged us back with an 84th minute equaliser to take a share of the points. In all, we have met March Town United 93 times since the war with United winning 36, Histon 34 and 23 drawn.
March play in Robingoodfellow’s Lane, not far from March town centre. The postcode for your SatNav is PE15 8HS. Admission prices are adult £8, over 65 and 16/17 year-olds £5 and under 16s £2. Car parking is available in the GER Sports Club car park adjacent to the ground or in the surrounding streets.
A win on Tuesday night will give us a 100% winning record for the month of October, so please show the team your appreciation by coming along and cheering them on to even greater heights.
C’mon the Stutes!
