This Sunday, Histon Ladies are looking to extend their run of six consecutive wins since the start of the season when they take on a side from East London in the Women’s FA Cup Second Qualifying Round. The team managed by Liz Pamplin and Darren Marjoram, pictured above, have made a magnificent start to the season but now face a much stronger challenge if they are to progress to the next stage of the cup and be in the draw alongside some of the bigger sides in the Women’s game.
To bring you up to speed with the Ladies side, Liz Pampkin has produced the following update on how the season has gone so far:
The new season has begun in the best possible way, with the team putting together a run of strong performances in both the league and the FA Cup. While it’s still early days, the signs have been very encouraging, and there is a real sense of quiet confidence about what this group can achieve together.
The campaign opened with a 3–1 win away at Newmarket Town, a result that gave the players a real boost. That was followed by our first home game of the season, where a professional display secured a 2–0 victory against Biggleswade. From there, the momentum built with a memorable 4–2 win at Mulbarton, highlighted by Evie Nicholls’ perfect hat trick – a special achievement that showed the quality we have in the squad.
A midweek 3–0 win at home to Fulbourn kept the good run going, before a hard-fought 2–1 success over Colney Heath most recently underlined the team’s resilience. Every game has been a different test, and the players have responded well so far, finding ways to get results both home and away.
The FA Cup has also brought its own excitement. A solid 3–0 victory at Sprowston in the first qualifying round was a pleasing start to our journey in the competition. That has set up a challenging home tie against Clapton Community, a club with strong recent FA Cup history and excellent support. It will be a real test, but also an opportunity for us to measure ourselves against tough opposition.
Nobody is getting carried away, but we are proud of how the season has started. The players are working hard, the togetherness in the squad is clear to see, and the support from the stands has been fantastic. All of us know that a good FA Cup run would mean so much to the club, and we will do everything we can to keep progressing and hopefully make a little bit of history along the way.
For now, the focus remains on taking things one game at a time, continuing to improve, and building on this positive start. There’s a long season ahead, but the foundations have been laid for what we hope will be an enjoyable and successful campaign.
Kick-off at Bridge Road on Sunday is at 2.00pm and your support would be greatly appreciated.
