Lance Key and his troops will be keen to put the disappointment of last weeks’ defeat behind them, though another tough task awaits in the shape of Wellingborough Town.

The Stutes visit The Dog and Duck to take on their third placed hosts who have faced a little inconsistency in recent weeks, which has ultimately cost them a shot at the league title. Firstly, a defeat against new leaders Coventry Sphinx came on March 11th, with a second successive loss at the hands of the much improved Bugbrooke St Michaels a week later. A point then followed with 4 goals shared with Newport Pagnell Town, before a welcome away win came at March Town United a week ago.

It seems that the curse of being awarded the league’s team of the month came upon The Doughboys. Jake Stone’s side had collected 5 wins on the spin in February, which included an 8-0 thumping of Lutterworth Town. This had put the Northamptonshire outfit with a fantastic opportunity to challenge for the league title.

The majority of the goals have come thanks to the efforts of Lloyd Buckby and Thomas Iaciofano who have scored 15 and 14 time respectively, whilst Alexander Rico and Nehemiah Smith-Howes have both hit the back of the net 7 times.

In our last meeting it was The Doughboys who collected all 3 points. Back on a cool September evening, strikes from the aforementioned Buckby and Iaciofano proved to be enough to edge out The Stutes 2-0 at Bridge Road.

Stutes boss Lance Key will be hoping that last weeks first defeat in 10 games will have re-inforced his sides desire to enter the final month of the campaign on a positive front. Despite missing a number of familiar faces the side put in a fine performance on the road before succumbing to late pressure from Coventry Sphinx.

Key will continue to be without the services of Pat Bexfield and Luke Crisp owing to injury, whilst Max York is unavailable. Marcus Cole stepped into the defensive breach a week ago and showed his versatility with a positive individual display.
