This weekend we have not one, but two mouth watering fixtures at Bridge Road, both with plenty at stake for the competing sides.
Firstly, Chris Nunn’s side take on play-off hopefuls Daventry Town on Saturday afternoon as they look to put the recent run of indifferent results behind them. The Stutes will be encouraged by the result of the game when the two sides met in Daventry last Autumn. On that occasion, we were 0-2 winners thanks to goals by Tom Binder and Pharrell Anderson. That was despite some players not arriving at the ground until just before kick-off due to delays on the A14.
Daventry, who won 1-6 at Sileby Rangers last weekend, have strengthened their squad since we last met. Connor Furey is their latest recruit and is likely to be one to watch on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3.00pm and the match sponsor is Mark Pyatt.
Then on Sunday, the Histon Ladies First team take centre stage when they take on Cambridge City Ladies in the semi-final of the Cambs FA Ladies Invitation Cup. Our Ladies side is currently enjoying something of a purple patch in their Eastern Region Division One North campaign. They currently sit in 4th place, but with games in hand on the teams above them.
In contrast, Cambridge City are bottom of the Eastern Region Premier Division and without an away win to their name so far this season. The winners on Sunday will play either Newmarket Town Ladies or Cambridge United Ladies in the final.
Kick-off on Sunday is at 2.00pm and the game will be played to a conclusion with a penalty shootout if required. Admission to this game is free and the bar will be open throughout.
Make it a Stutes weekender and get behind your village teams!
