HISTON v Leicester Nirvana

United Counties League Premier Division South
Saturday 28th October 2023, kick-off @ 3.00pm

Last Saturday’s draw at league leaders March Town United gave Stutes supporters a glimpse of how the team might evolve under the guidance of new manager Chris Nunn. On the front foot from the start we were two up at half time, a score that didn’t flatter us and that could have been more had we converted a penalty when still at 0-0. Jim Burnside’s first goal for the club was the high point for the striker as his second half sending-off left us under pressure but the team dug deep and managed the game well to bring home a point.

After taking on the league leaders last weekend, this weekend we host the team at the other end of the table but any thoughts about taking this game lightly have been well and truly put to bed by the Gaffer. Depsite Nirvana’s difficult start to life at Step 5 there are signs that they are getting to grips with it all with only one defeat in their last five games in all competitions (that coming last weekend with a 0-1 defeat at Oadby). They are starting to close the gap at the bottom and coming from two down to take a point against high-flying Wellingborough Town recently shows that they carry a threat.

From our point of view Chris will want to build on last weekend’s excellent performance against The Hares and get that first win as Histon Manager under his belt. Jim Burnside sits out the first of his two game suspension follwing last Saturday’s red and Marcus Cole will serve a one match suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Pat Bexfield and Rob Ruddy remain out but Ed Rolph made a welcome return to action from the bench last weekend and will be looking for more minutes to build his fitness whilst fellow long-term absentee Luke Crisp should be available for selection for the first time this season. Left back Will Summerfield joined us in time to play last Saturday but is on a short-term dual registration deal with Rushden & Diamonds as he serves a three game suspension for them that applies only at Step 4 or above but which means he is available for us for another couple of weeks. Midfielder Joe Sutton came off with a knock at March but is expected to be ok for tomorrow.

Tickets for the game are available to buy in advance on our ticket portal but we can also take cash or contactless payment at the turnstile on the day of course.

The Bar and Burger Bar will both be open as usual too with cash and contactless payment available at both.  Live Premier League games will be on both before and after the game in the bar so why not come on down a bit early and stay a bit late! The Burger Bar is supplied by Histon Chop Shop whose burgers and sausages are hand made to order for the club whilst we also offer Pukka Pies, as well as chips (of course!).

Turnstiles open at 1.30pm.

And don’t forget the Quiz Night after the game….
