HISTON v Birstall United
United Counties League Cup 1R
Saturday 9th September 2023, kick-off @ 3.00pm
Saturday sees us at The Bridge again, this time for the visit of Birstall United in the UCL League Cup, a game that gives Lance a chance to introduce new signing Lewis Mair into the squad before returning to league action next weekend for the home game against Coventry United. Matty Allan is not available this weekend but will be ready to make his second debut for the Stutes next weekend.
Supporters will no doubt be hoping to see some light at the end of the injury tunnel soon and to that end physio Craig Galbraith has indicated that Ed Rolph and Connor Barnes are both getting closer to a return although this weekend may be too soon to see either of them back in action on the pitch. Luke Crisp remains out but Harvey Bullinaria is back, as is Pat Bexfield although the versatile stalwart’s knee injury will need to be carefully managed in order to maximise his availability over coming weeks. Danny Gould is getting stronger as he continues his own recovery from a serious knee injury but he too needs careful managing in order to ensure no setbacks on his own road to full recovery.
United have made a decent start to their 2023/24 UCL Division 1 season and currently sit 5th in the table after 7 games, 5 of which they have won. Josh Crossley leads the goalscoring list for the visitors with 8 from 8 games so far this season.
Should the sides be level after 90 minutes the winners will be decided by penalty shoot-out, there will be no extra-time.
Tickets for this game are available to buy in advance on our ticket portal but we can also take cash or contactless payment at the turnstile on the day of course.
The Bar and Burger Bar will both be open as usual too with cash and contactless payment available at both. The Burger Bar is supplied by Histon Chop Shop whose burgers and sausages are hand made to order for the club whilst we also offer Pukka Pies, as well as chips (of course!).
Turnstiles open at 1.30pm.
