Ely City v HISTON

Cambridgeshire FA Invitation Cup 1R
Tuesday 7th November 2023, kick-off @ 7.45pm

Tomorrow evening we take the short trip up the A10 to Ely City’s Demcom Stadium as we start our Invitation Cup campaign for 2023/24.

It’s fair to say that our record in the competition in recent years hasn’t been great and the last time we reached the Final was in 2019 when our hosts tomorrow lifted the Cup after a 2-1 win at the Abbey Stadium. We have met since then in this competition as two years later the Robins won 3-2 at Bridge Road in January 2021.

After our league game at Lutterworth was called off on Saturday Chris was able to arrange a friendly against St Neots Town on their 3G after their own game also fell foul of the wet weather. This gave the Gaffer a chance to take a look at new signings Lene Burden and Ellis Leka in Histon action for the first time and was also an opportunity for Luke Crisp and Ed Rolph to get more minutes into their legs as they both continue their respective recoveries from long-term injury. Likewise for Joe Sutton as he recovers from a hamstring problem picked up against us for Daventry Town a few weeks ago.

As the Manager stated at last week’s Fan’s Forum, he will put a strong side out for this game but there are one or two with knocks that will need looking at ahead of kick-off, Miles Smith is likely to miss out again with a groin problem and Jim Burnside will sit out the final game of his suspension.

The winners will be decided on the night as if the sides are level after 90 minutes there will be a penalty shoot-out to decide who goes through.

Stadium address: The Demcom Stadium, Downhams Road, Ely, CB26 2SH.

Driving time from Bridge Road: approx 25 minutes (16 miles).
