United Counties League, Premier Division South

HISTON v Rugby Town

Kick Off 2pm

Top of the table Rugby Town are the visitors on Saturday (Kick Off 2PM), as The Stutes are back in action have gone 11 days without a game since their County Cup loss to Cambridge University Press.

Our guests ‘The Valley’ make the trip to Bridge Road looking to bounce back, having suffered a rare defeat last weekend at the hands of AFC Wulfrunians of The Midland Football League in the FA Vase. They had to fair without striker Jordan Wilson who was cup-tied, in a game which remained goalless until the hour mark. Rugby fans hoped they had shown enough to take the tie to penalties with an 85th minute equaliser, before a cruel stoppage time winner was headed home by the visitors.

As they were when we last met The Valley still sit in poll position in the division, although near neighbours Coventry Sphinx are hot on their heels, just 4 points behind with a game in hand. Stutes boss Lance Key will be seeking revenge with his side having felt a little hard done by having conceded on 6 occassions in a goal fest at Butlin Road little over a month ago (6-3). The visitors will almost certainly recall striker Wilson who has scored 5 in 5, including  hat-trick against The Stutes to the starting line up, alongside his veteran partner David Kolydynski. Tom Fielding will again look to be a challenge for the Stutes backline to keep at bay having also netted a hat-trick in that strange affair.

Having had the benefit of a week off Lance Key will hope that his side is fresh and revitalised having impressed in recent weeks. Despite having lost a handful of experienced personnel the Manager has seen his side maintain a healthy position in the league, collecting 12 points from a possible 18 in their last 6 games. Recent signing Connor Barnes will again hope to impress after his fine debut against Long Buckby, whilst young Mar-Lee Fisher will also hope to have a similar impact as he did two weeks ago. He continues to be unable to call upon Dan Brown who remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
