Saturday afternoon (2PM) we welcome Long Buckby to Bridge Road, as Lance Key’s men look to get back to winning ways, having suffered a frustrating and quite frankly undeserved defeat last week. Key will no doubt be enthused by the fine form that Luke Linday continues to find, as the forward found the net for the 10th time last time out at MK Irish. Having gained a further forward with the dual registration of the lively Connor Barnes, hopefully the void left from the departed Rhys Thorpe will be filled.
The visitors come into the game finding themselves at the wrong end of the table, with just 2 victories to their name. Since the 2-0 victory on the road at Cogenhoe on September 19th, The Bucks have failed to collect a point in 4 league outings. Their other 3 points also came on the road, back on August 27th as Coventry United were beaten 2-0. A trio were signed in midweek, in the hope of lifting The Bucks from the danger zone, with Jake Buckle, Cameron Mabbutt, and Edward Uka all signing from lower league opposition following a midweek exit from the Northants Hillier Cup with a 6-2 defeat at Step 4 Corby Town. A presence in the final third appears to be the main issue, with only 10 goals having been scored thus far.
This will hopefully bode well for The Stutes back line, a defence that by their own admission have conceded too frequently in recent weeks. In total 28 goals have been shipped as the side have failed to record a clean sheet since September 9th. With a more consistent rear line now being named, the boss will no doubt hope for some more defensive security as the season progresses.
