This Saturday we are off to the pretty Buckinghamshire town of Newport Pagnell in search of three more UCL Premier Division South points. After contrasting results in our two previous games on the road, we can again expect the unexpected while Mark and Matt look to instill some consistency in our team. But a fine performance and a well-earned point at Hinckley last Saturday gives us every reason to travel with optimistic expectations.
Our first ever meeting with Newport Pagnell Town was as recent as August 2021 when, as a Northern Premier League side, we were soundly beaten 4-1 in an FA Cup Preliminary Round tie. Newport went on to appear in two consecutive FA Vase Finals but have since failed to push on as many had expected. We won on our next two visits to Willen Road in the United Counties League but went down 3-1 in the same fixture last season.
Newport made an abysmal start to the 2025/26 season, losing all their first five games. That was followed by an unbeaten run of six league games in which they picked up 16 points out of 18. That run came to an end at Moulton last Saturday when they went down by a 2-1 scoreline. Nevertheless, Newport Pagnell will present a stiff test for Mark and Mark’s side as we look to put as many points on the board as possible before the pitches turn wet and muddy.
Newport’ Willen Road ground is 46 miles from Bridge Road, but you may wish to ask your chauffeur to avoid the Black Cat roundabout on the A1 as it is currently a total mess. Admission to the game is £9.00 for adults, £7 concessions and £3 for under 16s. A programme will set you back £2. The unusual layout of the facilities at Willen Road means the bar is outside the ground and before you pay to get in. Burgers, hot dogs, rolls, snacks and hot & cold drinks are available from Jackie’s T Hut which is inside the ground. There is free parking available on site. For your SatNav, the postcode is MK16 0DF.
The team will greatly appreciate your support this weekend and again at Bridge Road on Tuesday night when Great Shelford are our opposition in the Cambs Invitation Cup, kicking off at 7.45pm.
C’mon the Stutes!
