It has been over 120 years since Histon Institute FC was founded, but on Saturday we make our first ever visit to Moulton FC, founded in 1897, for what promises to be a keenly contested battle between two promotion play-off contenders.
Just two points separate the sides in the league table with Moulton in third place and Histon in fourth, but with the chasing pack closing in, both sides will be aware that a win on Saturday will go a long way to securing a place in the season finale and deal a significant psychological blow to their opponents.
Since being promoted from the Spartan South Midlands League Division One last season via the play-offs, Moulton have more than held their own at the higher level. They have lost just one of their last ten league games and have won nine of their thirteen matches at home. But on Saturday they come up against a Stutes side which has been impressive on the road since Matt and Mark have been in the driver’s seat, losing just two of our last ten UCL away fixtures.
The Stutes have yet to play a game in 2026 after our two previous fixtures were postponed due to adverse weather conditions (Our game at Leicester Nirvana has now been rearranged for 21st February). The enforced break has given Connor Barnes time to recover from a hip injury and Joe Greenslade-Cross could also be in contention for a place in the side after gaining match fitness with the Reserves last weekend. The game may however be a little too soon for Danny Gould and Luke Crisp who are both out with knee injuries.
Located on the northern outskirts of Northampton, Moulton is 52 miles from Bridge Road. Their modern 3G pitch should pose us few concerns as our previous four matches on similar surfaces this season have resulted in us picking up two wins and two draws.
According to the UCL website, admission prices are £7 for adults and £4 for concessions. There is ample parking available on site, so you only need to follow your SatNav to NN3 7QF to support the Stutes in this crucial and historic league encounter. Three points will give us a perfect, if somewhat belated, start to 2026. The trip to Moulton is one we have waited 120-plus years to make. It is now one that is not to be missed!
