The Stutes are back in action under the Bridge Road floodlights on Tuesday evening when our close(ish) rivals from Yaxley are our visitors.  It is a game in which Co-Managers Mark Critoph and Matt Payne will be keen to see their side extend their unbeaten run to seven, but will also be aware that games against Yaxley are never a walk in the park.  As Mark reminds us in his matchday programme notes. “We have met once already this season, when I thought they were well organized and moved the ball well.  We expect another very tough game, which is something we say every week as they are all tough in this league.”

That previous meeting came in August this year when we fought out a 1-1 draw on Yaxley’s 3G surface, but if we do manage to take all three points on Tuesday night, it will be our first home win over Yaxley in four attempts.  The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 4-4 draw, and we took just one point from our previous two games against Yaxley at Bridge Road earlier this decade.  Our only win against them at Bridge Road came in the FA Cup way back in 2001.

But if history is on Yaxley’s side, current form unquestionably pointing towards a home win.  Victories in five of our last six games, and nineteen goals scored in the last five, suggests that we can go into this match with justifiable confidence.  A fifth straight league win will consolidate our place in the top six with games in hand on our closest rivals.  Meanwhile Yaxley ended a run of three defeats with a 4-0 home win over Sileby Rangers last time out.  That result will have no doubt given The Cuckoos a boost, but with a record of just one point from their five league games on the road this season, they will be hoping for a sizeable chance to their fortunes on Tuesday night.

Admission on Tuesday night is at the usual rate of £10 for adults, £6 concessions and £2 for 12 to 17-year-olds.  As well as Critz’s notes, the matchday programme includes news of the nasty injury sustained by Joe Greenslade-Cross, a match report on our win at Newport Pagnell, a round-up of recent games in the UCL Premier South, a look back at a Histon match on 21st October 1961 and more, all for less than the price of a bag of chips.  Bargain!
