We are back in action under the floodlights at Bridge Road on Tuesday night when we look to get our season back on track after a period of turmoil at the club. With the dust now settling after Chris Nunn’s defection to St Neots, former Stute Wayne Goddard has been added to the management team to help ease the load on Mark Critoph and Matt Payne. As many will be aware, Wayne is the father of our young midfield dynamo Theo Goddard and a former Histon player himself having been part of Steve Fallon’s Eastern Counties Premier League winning side of 1999/2000.
Also arriving at Bridge Road last week was goalkeeper Charlie Congreve following a long-term injury to Jake West, and Ben Smith, a versatile defender or midfielder. Both are likely to be part of the squad for Tuesday night’s game against Northampton Sileby Rangers.
Sileby Rangers have been the proverbial box of frogs this season. They have lost four of their five home games in the UCL with their only home points coming from a creditable 3-1 win over Eynesbury Rovers. But away from home it has been a different matter as they are still undefeated on the road this season. On Saturday in the FA Vase they edged past Spartan South Midlands Premier Division strugglers Crawley Green on penalties.
Sileby and ourselves are currently separated by a single point but with us have played two games fewer. A victory for the Stutes will therefore come as a timely confidence booster for our young side and see us catch up with several of the clubs currently in a mid-table position. This fixture finished in a 2-2 draw last season with Danny Gould scoring both Histon goals. Can we go one better this time and get our new management team their first victory.
