It’s home sweet home for the Stutes this Saturday when we return to Bridge Road after a run of five consecutive away games.  Since our last home match on 1st November, we have played in Oxfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Fenland and Warwickshire and on surfaces which include grass, plastic and sand, but we now return to the familiar surroundings of our home stadium to play in front of our own supporters for the first time in four weeks.

Mark and Matt have propelled us up the league table to third place since taking over from Chris Nunn, but the opposition that awaits us on Saturday are not having a bad season either.  Since their shock defeat at Bugbrooke St Michaels earlier this month, Moulton have been on a good run, beating Easington, Coventry United and Hinckley before being held to a 1-1 draw by March Town United on Tuesday night.  It is a run that has lifted them up into fifth place in the table and just two points behind ourselves with both sides having played twenty games.  After Saturday, they are scheduled to play both Aylestone Park and Nuneaton Town in quick succession, which means they will have played all four of the clubs currently above them in the table in the four weeks leading up to Christmas.  That is about as difficult a run of fixtures as it gets, so both sides will be equally keen to take maximum points from Saturday’s game in what promises to be a tense and hard-fought battle.

Moulton are no strangers to end of season play-offs as last year they were the winners of the Spartan South Midlands League Division One version, beating our friends from Eaton Socon in the final to win promotion to Step 5.  They have gone about life in the UCL Premier South with more or less the same set of players as last season, and there is little doubt that they have so far justified the faith their manager had in them.

Histon will be without Jordan Foster due to work commitments but have no new injury worries.  Winger Joe Greenslade-Cross, who suffered a rib injury back in October, is making progress according to club physio Craig Gailbraith and hopes to be back training by Christmas.  His potential return to action in the New Year will no doubt be a boost for the First team squad and add to the competition for places, which is never a bad thing.

Saturday’s programme has a feature on the four players who left the club during November, temporarily or otherwise, plus all the usual news and stats.  Be sure to get your copy on Saturday.

Following the game, we are holding another of our popular Race Nights in the club bar, starting at 7.00pm.  All are welcome, so come along and have an evening in the company of our players and management staff as we all try to beat the bookie for once, even if all profits go to Histon FC.

The match is being sponsored by Colin Barnes Builders and our mascots on the day are the Histon Hornets Under 12s, so be sure to give them a hearty cheer.  Kick-off is at 2.00pm.
