We are back in league action at Bridge Road on Saturday in the next stage of our transformation under the leadership of joint managers Matt Payne and Mark Critoph. The attacking flair and hunger for goals that has characterized our last four games has netted us three wins and a draw, with the latest win coming on Tuesday night when we avoided a potential banana skin to overcome Great Shelford in the Cambs Invitation Cup. Now we look to carry the momentum of that result into Saturday’s game when Easington Sports are our visitors for a 3.00pm kick-off.
Easington have not made the start to the season they may have wished for, but as Mark Critoph warns in his programme notes for Saturday’s game, they are not to be taken lightly. Mark says, “This is a very tough league and when we look at all the teams in it, we find that, on their day, anyone can beat anyone else. We therefore have to be up for every single game and give it one hundred percent.”
Easington Sports are currently two places off the bottom of the UCL Premier South league table but pulled off a surprise win at Leicester Nirvana last weekend. After a run of heavy defeats at Northampton ON Chenecks, Hinckley and Aylestone Park (which finished 6-2, 8-2 and 5-1 respectively), the Sports pulled off a 0-2 win in Leicester to keep them out of the bottom two relegation places. They will therefore be fighting tooth and nail on Saturday to add to their points total and move away from the league’s danger zone.
A player likely to be playing a part in Saturday’s game is new signing Jordan Foster, who has until now been playing in an attacking midfield role for Step 4 side Newmarket Town. Jordan has joined us on a dual-registration basis and made a cameo appearance in our win at Newport Pagnell Town last weekend. One player who will not be in the squad however is midfielder Danny Setchell, who has moved on to play for Mildenhall. Danny, the son of Corby Town manager Gary Setchell, made 12 appearances for us this season but has not featured in any of our last five matches.
Easington Sports won on their first ever visit to Bridge Road in April 2023 but we have won our last two encounters with them here, the latest being a 2-1 victory last season when Matty Allan and Luka Cardines were our scorers.
Looking further ahead, we heard this week that two of our away fixtures later in the year have been rearranged. Our game at March Town United has been brought forward to Tuesday 28th October (from Saturday 6th December) and our visit to Godmanchester Rovers which was postponed earlier in the season will now take place on Tuesday 18th November. Both games will start at 7.45pm.
The draw has also taken place for the second round of the Cambs Invitation Cup, when the Stutes were drawn to play at Soham Town Rangers on Tuesday 4th November 2025. Kick Off also at 7.45pm.
Entry to the game this weekend is at the usual rate of £10 for adults, £6 concessions and £2 for 12 to 17-year-olds, and don’t forget your matchday programme which this week includes features our new First team recruits Ben Smith and Jordan Foster.
Our Tracey will again be holding one of her bucket collections prior to the game on behalf of Cancer Research, so please be sure to bring any loose chance you can spare for this most worthwhile cause.
