This weekend we are on the road again, this time to the picturesque village of Bugbrooke St Michaels, which is just a few miles west of Northampton. We last played the Badgers, as they are known, in March of this year when Matt Hayden scored a hattrick in our 3-1 victory at Bridge Road. Our last visit to Bugbrooke however was a feisty affair which ended with us being on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline and having just 9 players left on the pitch at full time.
Last season saw both sides finish in mid-table with 50 points and an identical goal difference of -9, meaning we could only be separated by the number of goals scored over the course of the season. On that basis, we finished one place behind the Bugbrooke as they netted 72 goals compared to our 64.
Extra interest in Saturday’s game will come from the inclusion in the Histon squad of a player who was an integral part of the Bugbrooke side last season but signed for the Stutes earlier this week. Midfielder Tom Binder made 41 appearances for the Badgers during the 2023/24 season and scored on 5 occasions. He was signed by league champions Wellingborough Town during the summer but has now joined Histon on a permanent basis. Tom, pictured above challenging Ryan Towner, featured in both matches between the two sides last season so will have already had a close-up view of his new teammates. He is expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game and will no doubt be providing us with plenty of inside information on his former side.
Kick-off at Birds Close on Saturday is at 3.00pm and the post code info for your Sat Nav is NN7 3PJ. Admission is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and under 16s are admitted free of charge. An online matchday programme is available via a QR code available at the ground. There is ample car parking on site and hot food will be available throughout the afternoon. Your support for the Stutes would be greatly appreciated as we look to bring home the three points.
