A valiant display by the Histon FC Ladies resulted in us lifting the Cambridgeshire FA Invitational Cup following a nerve-shredding penalty shootout.  After winning all twenty-two league matches to win Eastern Region Women’s League Division One North, the Ladies crowned their remarkable season with a win against a Cambridge United side that were last season playing two divisions higher up the Women’s football system.

The match, which was staged at Cambridge City’s stadium near Sawston, was dominated by both defences and ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.  Cambridge United’s best chance of scoring came mid-way through the first half when a close-range shot was steered just wide of the target.  Histon had to wait until the very last second of the game for their best opening when Evie Nicholls escaped her marker to head a high cross against a post.

After the drama of the closing seconds of the game, it took a penalty shoot-out to decide the winners and after five perfectly placed spot-kicks it was the Stutes who celebrated lifting the cup.  For the management team of Darren Marjoram, Liz Pamplin, Matt Payne and Tara Fitzjohn the win rounded off the season in style and was a fitting reward for the work put in by the players and coaches over the past nine months.

Our congratulations go to the players from both sides for providing the sizeable crowd with an entertaining final but especially to our Ladies side on their first major cup success and a league and cup double in 2025/26.
