After fighting back to level the game through Matty Allan’s strike on the hour we went down to a last minute winner scored by Danny Watson who headed home at the far post.

Steve Fallon was forced to make a late change to his starting line-up when Elkanah Sibanda was injured in the warm up, his place taken by Cameron Watson. The game didn’t really get going until the latter stages and was very much stop start in the first half. Rovers made the better chances in the opening period and it was Ashley Fuller who put the visitors ahead with 26 minutes on the clock, his powerful drive proving too hot for Niall Conroy in the Histon goal who couldn’t keep it out.

We were livelier in the second half and started to make an impression going forward and on the hour mark levelled the scores. Danny Gould twisted and turned to make space for himself in the area and his ball across fell for Matty Allan who rolled it home.

Rovers had a glorious chance to regain the lead soon after but the opportunity was wasted as both sides started to look for the winner. In the closing minutes both Ben Yeomans and Matty Allan tried their luck with free kicks from just outside the area but neither could test Martin Conway in the Rovers’ goal and with the clock just about ready to click over to 90 minutes Rovers got what proved to be the winner when Watson headed home at the far post.

Within a minute it was nearly 3-1 but the post intervened to keep us in it and we pounced on the loose ball to counter attack at pace down the right and it looked like Yeomans was about to equalize (pictured) before Conway pulled off a terrific save to win his side the points.

We’re back in FA Cup action next week when we visit Wealdstone in the 2nd Qualifying Round.
