Pitching In Isthmian League North Division
Saturday 24th October 2020
On a blustery afternoon at Burroughs Park Ed Rolph’s strike with a little over 10 minutes left proved to be the winner as we brought all three points home from Essex and kept our impressive away form going to lift us up to second in the early season table.
The afternoon had not started well as Kojo Apenteng put the home side ahead in the 6th minute and it wasn’t until nearly half an hour had passed before Danny Gould was on hand to finish Ed Rolph’s low cross from the left from close range to level things up. A few minutes later and we were ahead, Dan Brown’s deflected shot was well kept out by Tim Brown in the Rovers’ goal but Josh Dawkin was on hand to power the rebound home to make it 2-1. On another day perhaps we could have gone into the break further ahead but Rovers’ Brown was in fine form and produced two outstanding saves to keep us out so 2-1 it was at half time.
The second half started with Dawkin at it again. Not content just with scoring his first stutes goal he added another soon after the re-start, driving home another shot from the edge of the area after Evan Key’s headed lay-off. The two goal lead didn’t last long though as within a minute it was 3-2 when Dan Brown couldn’t clear a ball into the area and found it instead nestling in the corner past Roach.
The game settled down a bit after that but with 77 minutes gone Rovers were level and it was through a free kick superbly struck by Apenteng into the top corner that gave Roach no chance and made it 3-3. The momentum appeared to be with the home side but almost immediately we were up at the other end, Buster Harradine striking a low shot that Brown could only parry out where Ed Rolph was on hand to place the rebound into the corner and we were ahead again.
That proved to be the winner and kept our unbeaten away record going in the league. We’re back at the Bridge on Tuesday night though when we welcome Romford and we follow that up with a trip to Hullbridge Sports next Saturday before two tough home games in a week against Aveley and Tilbury.
