Histon FC can confirm that the club and goalkeeper Sam Roach have parted company.
Sam made a total of 259 appearances for the club and has been our first choice ‘keeper over the past seven years. He started his football journey in the academy here at Bridge Road before being signed by Football League side Leyton Orient. He then re-joined the Stutes on loan in December 2017 before the move was made permanent a month later.
Sam has the rare distinction of having represented the club in four different leagues, i.e. the Eastern Counties League, Isthmian League, Northern Premier League and the United Counties League. He was an ever-present between the sticks in our Eastern Counties Championship-winning side of 2018/19, during which he gained a reputation for saving penalties which continued to grow in subsequent years. More recently, he was voted both the Players Player of the Year and the Supporters Player of the Year for the 2023/24 season.
Fittingly, Sam’s last appearance for Histon came last Saturday when he kept a clean sheet against Newport Pagnell Town.
The club would like to place on record our gratitude to Sam for his service to the club and wish him every success in his future career.
