Histon Football Club is delighted to announce that Rob Ruddy has re-signed for the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The imposing defender previously played under Lance Key between 2017 and 2020 making 78 appearances, scoring twice. Ruddy becomes the second former Stute to return to Bridge Road, following Ed Rolph’s lead earlier in the summer. Since his departure in 2020, Ruddy has had spells with both Mildenhall Town and Godmanchester Rovers, last season helping guide Rovers to a strong finish within the UCL.
On his move back to The Bridge, Ruddy added ‘Although I had kept in contact with Keysey over the past few years, a return to Histon had never been on the cards. However, when the club recently got in touch I just felt the time was right to return. I’m a family man at heart and my family mean everything to me. My fiancée and kids love the club, it’s very local to us and as well as a fantastic set up, group of players and management team the club meet all my ambitions.
For any club I play for my aspirations never change and that is to win as many games as possible. Everyone associated with Histon knows what they want to achieve this season and with the mix of young, talented and experienced players we have a great chance of doing that. I’m just chuffed to bits to have another opportunity to wear a Histon shirt again.’
On capturing yet another well known man, Manager, Lance Key noted ‘Welcome back Rudd’s! Rob will bring us a huge amount of experience to our back line, a committed defender who will most certainly bring another edge to our side. Rob has obviously won the Eastern Counties League with us and we hope that he will again bring us that never say die attitude which will rub off on others. He is a true leader and someone we are delighted to welcome back to help with our push this season for the play-offs’
