This coming Saturday we make the relatively short trip up the road to meet our Fenland Friends from March Town United for a game which could have significant implications at the top end of the UCL Premier Division South.

With the business end of the season coming into sight, March will be looking to consolidate their place in one of the four play-off slots up for grabs, while our boys have their sights set on extending their run of five wins in their last six outings.

Our hosts are currently placed fourth in the UCL Premier South table, 19 points adrift of St Neots in top spot and five points ahead of ourselves in a mid-table ninth place.  But with just three points separating the five clubs chasing the last of the play-off places, there is much for both sides to play for.  A win for the Stutes on Saturday could theoretically put us fifth in the table, which would be a fitting reward for the progress Chris Nunn’s side has made since the turn of the year and a far cry from late October when March were second behind Aylestone Park and ten points ahead of ourselves.

The indications are that Saturday’s game will be a tight one, but our post-war record against March Town United gives an indication of just how close it could be.  There is nothing but a cigarette paper separating us in head-to-head matches against each other in all competitions, as the following figures show.

v March Town Utd;    Played 86,  Won 32,  Drawn 21,  Lost 33,  Goals for 145,  Goals against 145.

Despite the narrow gap between us, we have to go back 37 years to the 1987/88 season for the last time we lost a league match at the home of the Hares.  Since then, each of our nine league visits to Robingoodfellows Lane have either ended in a win for the Stutes or have been drawn.

In last season’s fixture, Danny Gould gave us an early lead and the flamboyant Jim Burnside added a second before being sent off in the second half for his choice of words when addressing a match official.  The game ended in a 2-2 draw.

March Town United can lay claim to being one of the best supported clubs in the division, so an electric atmosphere is guaranteed.  Admission to the ground will set you back £8.00, over 65s and 17/18-year-olds £5.00 and younger supporters just £1.00.  The postcode for your SatNav, should you need it, is PE15 8HS and kick-off is at 3.00pm.

Your support for the Stutes on the day could make all the difference and would be very much appreciated by Nunny and his team.  Be there, be proud and be loud!
