West Wratting 1 HISTON 0
Histon lost their final pre-season game away at West Wratting. Both sides had their chances, but the hosts held on to an early lead to edge a tight affair.
A frantic start to the game saw Histon a goal behind in the first two minutes after West Wratting broke down the right-hand side. The ball then found it’s way into the box and was eventually bundled into the net to give The Stutes work to do early on. Histon had their chances to equalise but failed to test the home goalkeeper in the first half, the closest effort being a shot that sailed over the bar from Stutes trialist Essien on the stroke of half time.
The second half saw Histon begin to get close to finding the net, as eight minutes after the interval, a threaded through ball from Dexter Todd found Connor Barnes through on goal, but his effort was tipped past the post. West Wratting had chances themselves to extend their lead but were often stopped by Chris Gough, the highlight being a double save in the 70th minute where the keeper first tipped the ball onto the post before pouncing on a second shot from close range. Barnes was denied again in the 77th minute, after his shot was kept out by an stretched save from the home keeper as his effort looked to be heading into the far-left corner. A final throw of the dice for Histon came in the 88th minute as Bubba Camara’s long ball found Dan Brown darting into the box; however, Brown’s shot was dragged just wide of the post.
The Stutes now look to their opening game of the United Counties League season on Saturday 29th July at Aylestone Park to bounce back.
