Cambridgeshire County League, Senior B

Histon Reserves 0 Great Shelford Reserves 1

The Histon Reserve side lose on the opening day of the season after Great Shelford edge a tight affair.

Histon started the game brightly and had the ball in the back of the net through Jay Downham-Flood 12 minutes into the game, after the forward took the ball past three players before hammering a shot at the keeper. However, a touch on the ball by Essien Romuald-Foba as it was crossing the line was deemed offside and the goal was chalked off.

Great Shelford also had their chances in the first half, most notably a pass across Histon’s penalty area in the 27th minute, that was cut out by Harry Lander, which looked certain to find the feet of Great Shelford’s number nine for a tap in.

Tafari Passley came close to breaking the deadlock four minutes after the interval, after he was given enough space 30 yards out to have a go on goal, but his effort was parried away by the keeper.

In the 62nd minute, Great Shelford were the team to break the deadlock after dispossessing Histon at the back, giving Shelford’s number eight the opportunity to dribble into the penalty area and blast the ball into the top corner past Bradley Monks.

Histon came close to levelling the score in the 73rd minute as a free kick on the edge of the penalty area from Roman Barton was tipped past the post by the goalkeeper.

A last-ditch challenge denied Tshiami Menelik-Mfuni from being played through on goal in the 83rd minute.

Despite Histon’s efforts, Great Shelford managed to hold on to edge three points. The Stutes will be looking to bounce back against March Town United Reserves at Bridge Road on Saturday August 19th at Bridge Road, Kick Off 3PM.
