Another New Year and another new signing to join the ranks of the Histon FC First team squad.  A little under a year ago, manager Chris Nunn signed Danny Setchell from Corby Town on a temporary basis while the midfielder was working his way back to full fitness after a foot injury.  He returned to his parent club after just a couple of games but was sufficiently impressed with the setup here at Bridge Road to re-sign for the club, this time on a permanent basis.

The 26-year-old, who is the son of Corby Town manager Gary Setchell, was a regular member of the First Team squad at Steel Park last season where he was renowned for his goals from set pieces.  He can count Kings Lynn Town, Stamford and Wisbech Town among his former clubs.  He was also an important part of the Bedford Town side that won the Southern League Central Division Championship in 2021/22.  Despite breaking an ankle that season, he recorded 8 goals in 30 league appearances for the club and collected the Supporters’ Player of the Year award.

After a short spell at Aylesbury United, Danny joined his Father at Corby Town last season and made nine appearances before sustaining his foot injury.  He played three games for Wisbech Town earlier this season but now joins the Histon squad for the game against Rugby Town at Bridge Road on Saturday.  His arrival at Histon will add to the competition for places in the middle of the park following the departure in recent weeks of Luke Young and Mattia D’Angelo.

All at Histon FC would like to wish Danny a welcome return to the Stutes.

Danny, along with a few other First Team players, is currently available to sponsor for the second half of the 2024/25 season.  If you would like to have your name or that of your company appear against Danny’s picture in the matchday programme and on the club website, please contact Paul Smart at paul.smart@histonfc.co.uk.  Player sponsorship is usually £100 plus vat for the year but any reasonable offers for the remainder of the current season will be considered.
