Despite our exit from the FA Cup and FA Vase, Bridge Road is still in the grips of cup fever this week as we stage yet more cup ties for both our Under 18s and First team.  Firstly, our highly promising Under 18s side take on Yaxley Under 18s in an FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round tie this Thursday evening starting at 7.45pm.  With many of the Under 18s side having already made their First team debut this season, hopes are high that the Under 18s can make significant progress in the competition this year.  Under 18s games at Bridge Road are always well attended, entertaining and often high scoring affairs. First team squad members Jake Holman, Dawid Siek, Theo Goddard and Cass Abood all eligible to play, so this one should be excellent value at just £3 to get in.

The game will be played to a conclusion on the night with penalties to decide the winner if the scores are level after 90 minutes.  The winners will go into the draw for the First Qualifying Round which is due to take place during the week beginning 15th September.

Then on Saturday the First team play Southwell City in the Preliminary Round of the Sports Ground Development UCL Cup.  Southwell, who are currently 13th in Division One of the UCL, Knocked Leicester Nirvana out of the FA Vase a fortnight ago so they are obviously not a side to be taken lightly.  With this being the first ever meeting between the two sides, we will be watching history being made on Histon’s green and lush turf this coming Saturday.

The squad is likely to be boosted by the return of Danny Baulk and Marley Delgado, who was cup-tied against Mulbarton last weekend.  However, Theo Goddard is still suspended from First team games and Tom Binder is away travelling for an as yet unknown period.

Once again, season tickets will NOT be valid for Saturday’s game.  Admission is at the usual rate of £10 adults, £6 concessions and £2 for 12 to 17-year-olds.  Accompanied under 12s are admitted for free.  The bar will be open from 1.00pm and the food bar will be open throughout the afternoon.  This game will also be settled on the day with penalties after 90 minutes if required.

Not to be outdone, our Ladies side also have a significant cup game on their hands this Sunday when they travel to Sprowston in the Women’s FA Cup First Qualifying Round.  Sprowston play in Division Two of the Norfolk Women’s and Girls Football League so our Ladies will be looking to avoid any cup upsets on the day.  Should you wish to follow the Ladies up to the outskirts of Norwich on Sunday, the postcode for your SatNav is NR7 9QQ.

The best wishes of all at Histon FC go to our Under 18s, First team and Ladies as they all go looking to bring cup glory back to Bridge Road.
