After progressing into the next round of the FA Cup on Tuesday night, the Stutes return to United Counties League action this Saturday when Coventry United are the visitors to Bridge Road.
The partnership of Matt Payne and Mark Critoph are again expected to be taking charge of the Histon side while Chris Nunn is away on his summer holiday and the duo will be looking to keep up the momentum after two wins and two draws so far this season. But there is little doubt that Coventry will pose a severe threat to our unbeaten start to the season. Having only just missed out on a place in the promotion play-offs last season, Coventry have made a solid start to the 2025/26 season, winning two and losing one of their matches to date.
Games between Histon and Coventry have a history of being entertaining affairs in which plenty of goals have been scored. Of our six previous meeting, we have lost only one, but it was our heaviest defeat for some time. The full record against Coventry United is as follows;
26/11/22 Away Won 1-2
08/04/23 Home Drew 2-2
16/09/23 Home Won 3-2
10/02/24 Away Drew 2-2
24/08/24 Home Won 3-1
22/02/25 Away Lost 6-1
Danny Baulk made his Histon debut in midweek after the summer signing from St Neots Town completed his three-game suspension. However, Connor Barnes may be an absentee after missing the game at Thetford. But with youngsters Cass Abood, Jacob Dickson, Jake Holman and Dawid Siek all making positive impressions so far this season, Mark and Matt will have plenty of options at their disposal on Saturday.
The weather forecast for Saturday is for Bridge Road to be bathed in glorious sunshine, so be sure to bring your shades and suntan lotion. The game gets under way at 3.00pm with the usual admission prices, but don’t forget to pick up a programme priced £2 on your way into the ground.
