On Sunday 2nd October our Finance Director, Paul Smart will be running the London Marathon in memory of his stepdaughter, and raising money for the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge.

Emily was diagnosed with a rare, and highly aggressive spinal cord tumor in October 2020 and tragically passed away only 6 months later in May 2021, she was just 22 years old.

Following her prognosis Emily bravely set out to raise funds to support a ground-breaking research project into her rare form of cancer. She wanted to raise £10,000 but actually raised an incredible £105,000 for the Cancer Research Children’s Brain Tumor Centre of Excellence in Cambridge.

Paul now wants to take the opportunity to raise much needed funds Arthur Rank. He said “During Emily’s short illness she received the most incredible care from the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge, both at home and on the inpatient unit. As a family we will be forever grateful to the Arthur Rank team for their outstanding care and support. This is my opportunity to follow Emily’s lead and raise funds for this incredible charity so they can continue to provide outstanding services to other families at their time of need”

We wish Paul the very best of luck who we know has been strictly adhering to his 20 week training plan, which has now reached 40 miles plus per week and amassed over 500 miles in the process to prepare for the event. Fortunately, he is now tapering down for the big day!
