Here we go then, time to get the season started as we welcome Haverhill Rovers to The Glassworld Stadium tomorrow evening.

Results went our way against Rovers last season, goals from Max York and Ed Rolph saw us take all three points at their place in September and at The GW in November Matt Hayden, Evan Key and Tommy Wright were on target to see us home 3-1.

Lance has been pleased with pre-season and is happy to have been able to keep the core of his squad together whislt adding a few good players into the mix. Ollie Emsden, Lewis McDonald, Matt Green and nost recently, Simon Swinton all bring quality to the squad whilst Scholars Mirko Garcia and Mark Rayment have impressed too. Garcia and Rayment will likely go out to Fulbourn and Chatteris respectively to gain more experience of senior football and Lance will be keepng a close eye on their development as future first team players.

The Gaffer has also signed spaniard Andreu Ballester who has been impressive in pre-season, however we need to wait for International Clearance to come through before he can be considered for selection.

Both skipper Max York and iinfluential midfielder Lee Smith are available for tomorrow after shaking off knocks but Dan Brown will miss around three weeks after breaking his wrist against City a couple of weeks ago.

Despite Brown’s injury Lance is in a positive mood on the eve of the 2018/19 kick off. “We’ve got a strong squad of First Team players now” the Gaffer said “and the squad is strong enough to cope with a few knocks and niggles. We’ve got options, can change how we pay when we want to and whoever starts tomorrow will put a shift in and make it difficult for me to leave them out on Tuesday and that’s how it should be.”

We follow tomorrow’s opener with two more home games next week. We welcome Long Melford to The GW on Tuesday evening and next Saturday we entertain Peterborough Northern Star in the FA Cup.
