Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup Quarter Final
Tuesday 12th November 2019

Tomorrow night we take on Cambridge City for the second time this season after we met previously in the Velocity Trophy. This time we are competing in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup with a place in the semi-final up for grabs.

That meeting in September went well for us as Stutes supporters will remember. After City had taken the lead a Max York penalty levelled things up before Ed Rolph’s second half hat-trick saw us home 4-1.

City’s form at that time was patchy but they are now on a run of three wins on the bounce in all competitions, the most recent by 2-1 away at Witham Town on Saturday afternoon that saw them move up to 9th in the table, just a place and 2 points behind us.

Our own form has been the definition of inconsistent so far this season but we have won three of our last four, including back to back clean sheets in our last two games, at Hertford Town last week and again on Saturday when Danny Gould’s late strike got us all three points against Felixstowe and Walton United at Bridge Road.

Lance has given a number of young players a chance to show what they can do in recent weeks and all of them have stepped up impressively. Brian-Jeffrey Alihonou made his first senior start on Saturday whilst Lewis Mair and Ben Landshoff did the same at Hertford last Wednesday night. Lance may look to those young players again tomorrow whilst also getting some valuable minutes in for senior players such as Lewis McDonald to help build fitness.

If the scores are level after 90 minutes the winner will be decided by penalty shoot-out, there will be no extra time.

Kick off is at 7:45pm.
