United Counties League, Premier Division South

Wellingborough Town v HISTON

Kick Off 3pm

Lance Key takes The Stutes to The Dog and Duck, as they face a tough test against their fourth placed hosts Wellingborough Town.

Saturday’s clash sees two sides in relatively good form meet up in Northamptonshire. Both ‘The Doughboys’ and Stutes have collected 4 wins from their last 6 outings and will looking to muscle their way towards the top end of the division. We have already met in UCL action this season back on September 20th, when goals from Thomas Iaciofano and Lloyd Buckby were enough for Wellingborough to take the points.

The last outing for our hosts saw Jake Stone’s side draw a blank in front of goal, having to settle for a point on the road at Bugbrooke St. Michael. This was in stark contrast to The Doughboys game a week before, when 12 goals were shared at The Dog and Duck! GNG Oadby could lay claim to 5 of them, as Wellingborough eventually ran out 7-5 victors. The last two defeats for the hosts came at the hands of sides above them in the table. A 5-1 home loss was suffered at the hands of Newport Pagnell Town on October 18th, whilst a 2-0 loss was also seen on home turf as leaders Rugby Town collected the points.

Lloyd Buckby continues to lead the line, having scored 14 times from 15 appearances. A way behind him is Thomas Iaciofano with 6 goals, whilst a further eight Doughboys have struck home on multiple occasions. The home sides form on their own patch is somewhat inconsistent, having scored 22 and also conceded 22. 4 wins, a draw and 4 losses have been played out at The Dog and Duck in the league thus far.

Stutes fans will have been buoyed by the recent upturn in results, despite the loss of key players for numerous reasons. Positive results at in-form Coventry United (2-1) and a 5-2 home win against Desborough have given Lance Key belief that his charges are not a million miles off breaking into the top 5 in the division. Unfortunately this week we bring the news that Luke Lindsay is set to be sidelined for at least 6 weeks, whilst Dan Brown may now not be seen until the turn of the year due to his ankle injury. Luke Crisp may well see action this week, having limped off at Coventry United, whilst Harry Meats should be in contention to be part of the squad.

The away form of The Stutes now shows 4 wins, 0 draws and 3 defeats, scoring 14 whilst conceding 16. With the injuries of both Brown and Lindsay halting their seasons, recent signing Connor Barnes input has been key, collecting 3 goals from 5 appearances, whilst a cluster of young prospects from our Youth Team have contributed in front of goal in recent weeks.

Taking both sides recent results into account this should set up an interesting tie, one in which a victor may have plenty to gain from, with 6 of the top 8 sides facing each other this weekend.
