Histon Ladies brought their pre-season to a close last weekend with a visit to Boston United (see match report below). They start their 2017-18 league campaign by hosting Cambridge United Reserves at The Glassworld on Sunday afteroon, kick off @ 2:00pm.

Histon Ladies’ pre-season ended with a single goal defeat at Boston after two early goals for the home side and a deserved late one for their opponents.

The away side came close to taking the lead with seven minutes gone, Ali Wright’s first time side foot volley to a corner crashing against the Boston bar…

A minute later it was the hosts that led instead, defender Tessa Shaw doing well to get a sliding challenge in on the last player but the player reacted quicker and gave goalkeeper Keeley Robinson no chance with a finish into the top left corner of the net from right of goal.

With 14 minutes gone it was 2-0 to the home side, a free kick going across the edge of the area and, despite the efforts of defenders, the ball was shot into the roof of the net from just inside the box.

Histon came into the ascendancy for the last ten minutes of the half, coming close on 38 minutes when Hannah Gordon hit the underside of the bar from left of goal and the ball found its way away from it on the other side.

After the break the away side came out strongly and were the better of the two during the second half, Sophie Lanham shooting just off target three minutes into it with a shot from the edge of the area.

Sadly multiple knocks and injuries started to take their toll on Histon as they looked to get themselves back into the game.

Two minutes before the end Amanda Binge cut inside from near the right wing and rode two challenges before, with the outside of her boot, put the ball into the path of Abi Davies coming in from the right wing. With the conditions proving tricky Binge’s ball was well weighted and Davies’ first time shot took it into the far right side of the net despite the faintest of touches from the ‘keeper.

Histon pressed for the equaliser but time ran out before it could be found.
