Hutton Ladies 3 Histon Ladies 3 (Hutton win 5-3 aet)

Eastern Region Women’s Football League Plate Semi-Final
Sunday 15th April 2018

Histon’s hopes of making the final were dashed in extra time as Hutton went on to face Stevenage Reserves after coming back from being 3-1 down.

Histon went a goal to the good with 17 minutes gone, Kirsty Smith coming across from the left of the area before putting a 15 yard effort high and wide of the goalkeeper.

The advantage was doubled by Hannah Gordon two minutes later, her 35 yard free kick going over the ‘keeper and into the net.

Hutton reduced the deficit after 36 minutes, a shot finding the bottom right corner despite the best efforts of ‘keeper Keeley Robinson, a Katie Seagrave square ball five minutes later giving Gordon the chance to place her shot wide of the goalkeeper with the outside of her boot and make it 3-1, which remained the score the at the break.

A neat first time finish in the 64th minute meant that Hutton were a goal in sight of Histon, which disappeared after 73 minutes when a nicely weighted through ball, followed by a controlled volley lob, found the net and cancelled the away side’s advantage.

There was controversy in the 89th minute with an incident that would likely have turned the game in the away side’s favour, Ali Wright seemingly being brought down just inside the left side of the area but a free kick right on the line was all that resulted.

The game went into extra time and two goals, one on 105 minutes when a corner at the near post wasn’t cleared and was bundled over the line and one with a well hit shot a minute later right into the top left corner, gave Hutton the win and the place in the final.

Lineup here.
