Wymondham Town Ladies 8 Histon Ladies 2

ERWFL Division 1 North
Sunday 5th November 2017

After the 3-1 win for the home side in the cup fixture seven days ago Histon were hoping for a fairly decent result going into this fixture but free scoring Wymondham were too strong for them in the end.

It started well for Histon as they went a goal up with 8 minutes gone, Ali Wright’s shot from the right side of goal taking a deflection on the way through that left the goalkeeper stranded as it hit the inside of the right upright and went into the net on the other side.

Unfortunately three goals in a three minute spell after a long free kick on 13 minutes, followed by some hesitation in the defence and a good shot on the turn just inside the area, saw them go 3-1 down shortly afterwards.

This was compounded on 27 minutes when goalkeeper Keeley Robinson had to leave the field with a head injury in a challenge that saw Wymondham awarded a penalty, which was converted past new ‘keeper Hannah Gordon.

Hope came Histon’s way after 42 minutes when they reduced the deficit to two goals, Abi Davies’ cut back after running hard to the bye line being converted off Sophie Lanham’s knee, but the hosts netted from a bye line cut back themselves in first half added time to make it 5-2 at the break.

Angelica Fachechi took over between the sticks for Histon in the second half but further goals after 53 and 56 minutes, plus a second spot kick with a quarter of an hour to go that Fachechi only just failed to save, gave the home side their win.
