Histon Ladies 4 Silver End United Ladies 0

Silver End’s season came to an end with a defeat at Histon, who still have a match every Sunday for the next five weeks.

The hosts were strong from the start, Katie Seagrave forcing a save out of the away goalkeeper with 3 minutes gone and Siobhan White shooting wide with 10 minutes on the watch.

Two minutes later the home side took the lead, a pinpoint cross from near the left touch line by Ali Wright falling to an unmarked Abi Davies at the far post, whose first time volley found the top left corner of the net.

White shot wide after ceasing on a poor back pass with 14 minutes gone in a furious first 15 minutes, the game calming down and being more even shortly afterwards.

There was still time for some home chances, Kirstie Smith finding the side netting after 34 minutes and White hitting the bar three minutes later, ‘keeper Keeley Robinson being called into action in the 39th minute as the home side finished a goal to the good at the break.

Robinson was again in action four minutes after the break to deny Silver End, White bringing another save on 59 minutes.

After 74 minutes Histon finally got some distance between them and their opponents after a nervous hour, Seagrave drawing a foul going away from goal and just inside the penalty area, Sophie Lanham converting the resultant spot kick.

After 83 minutes a third goal came the home side’s way, Becky Lenton’s cross met by the outside of Hannah Gordon’s boot, the ball looping over the head of the ‘keeper and into the net.

In the 86th minute the final goal went in, White putting in a corner from the right and Katie Webb met the ball with a header at the far post that was low and the goalkeeper couldn’t keep out.

Robinson was still needed to keep the clean sheet a minute later when she pushed a free kick from distance behind.
