For the second week in a row Histon found themselves within a goal of keeping undefeated champions Wymondham at bay, this time around coming out the wrong end of a seven goal game.

A fast and furious start saw the away side go ahead with less than 2 minutes gone, Hannah Waters putting the ball low and wide of goalkeeper Keeley Robinson from left of goal.

Some may have thought the hosts were in for a tricky afternoon but they picked themselves up and fought back almost immediately, Abi Davies having a 35 yard effort pushed behind a minute later and, in the 5th minute, she scored the leveller after robbing the left back, taking to the bye line and then putting a low ball across the ‘keeper and into the far bottom left corner from an acute angle.

Hopes were high after a quarter of an hour when Histon took the lead, Hannah Gordon’s low and driven 20 yard free kick going to the left of the ‘keeper.

Those hopes were dashed in the 26th minute, however, a corner on the left by Kayleigh Holloway looping over everyone and finding the far bottom corner of the net.

The sides were level at the break but Wymondham edged ahead for the second time after 50 minutes, Waters netting her second goal of the afternoon with a low shot towards the bottom right corner, although many thought she had handled the ball on her way through moments before shooting.

Some good saves from Robinson kept her side in it but, in the 66th minute, her guard was broken, a cross from the left falling to the prolific Laura Nicholls at the back post just outside the six yard box, Nicholls trapping the ball before hammering a shot into the side netting at the same upright.

One of the biggest cheers of the afternoon went up three minutes into added time when Histon scored their third, Sophie Lanham squaring the ball to her left to Angelica Fachechi, whose first time shot from just inside the area looped over the ‘keeper for arguably the goal of the afternoon.
