Histon Ladies 4 Ipswich Town Development Ladies 1
Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division 1 North
Sunday 18th March 2018
Histon came away from this game with all three points, their fifth win in six games, after a battling display that included a solid debut for youngster Rebecca Lenton.
Katie Seagrave shot wide with 5 minutes gone, Ipswich giving the hosts a scare a minute later when they struck the underside of the bar with an effort themselves.
With 10 minutes gone Histon took the lead, Abi Davies receiving the ball right of the goal and putting her effort over the goalkeeper and into the net.
A minute later it was almost 2-0, Kirstie Smith anticipating a pass from the ‘keeper and, despite a high foot from the defender, carried on towards goal, only to see the shot stopper get a touch on her effort and put it on to the foot of the far left post.
A good save from the goalkeeper on 14 minutes denied Davies a second goal after Smith had played her in, this being the last of the chances until Ipswich equalised in the 36th minute after a well placed corner wasn’t fully cleared first time and the ball was put into the roof of the net.
With chances being rare at both ends there was delight for the home crowd with 69 minutes gone as they regained their lead, Smith stretching to play a ball out to the right, the away left back only managing to slice the ball along its current path and Davies ran on before beating the goalkeeper at her near post with an early effort.
Ten minutes later and the points were sealed, Sophie Lanham being brought down in the area and stepping up to put the resulting spot kick past the ‘keeper.
The hosts were unlucky not to add a fourth right on 90 minutes, Lanham’s corner headed onto the bar at the near left post by a defender and Katie Webb hitting the rebound, her close range effort going at the goalkeeper, who did well to hold on to it.
