Buildbase FA ase 4th Round
Saturday 5th January 2019
Kick Off @ 3:00pm
It’s time to forget about the league campaign for a week and concentrate on the Cup as we head into tomorrow’s Buildbase FA Vase 4th Round tie against Lye Town at The Glassworld.
Success over Colney Heath, Woodbridge Town and Leverstock Green have gotten us to this stage of the competition and the winners tommorrow will earn themselves a place in the last 16. Looking back at the run so far we needed a replay against Colney Heath although a superb free kick from Lee Smith seemed like it was going to be enough after we had gone down to 10 men only to see the home side equalise with the last kick of the 90 minutes. Back at The Glassworld a few days later and goals from Ed Rolph and Danny Gould in the first half an hour put us through.
The 2nd Round handed us a tough home tie agaist Woodbridge Town and what a night that turned out to be. A proper end to end game saw us eventually come thrugh 5-4 with Matt Green and Max York grabbing a couple each and Evan Key the other. As in the previous Round we ended up with 9 men after Lee Smith and Pat Bexfield saw red and keeper Sam Roach saved a penalty near the end, it was quite a game!
We were again drawn at home in the 3rd Round and this time Leverstock Green were the visitors but thankfully for us this was a less eventful game. Ed Rolph and Rob Ruddy gave us a great start and Dan Brown added two more before half time to put us 4 up at the break. Pat Bexfield added another in the second half to see us comfortably home 5-1.
We go into tomorrow’s game unbeaten since October and in good form. Lewis McDonald came through his first 90 minutes in 6 weeks last weekend as he continues to return to fitness following a rib injury. Andy Ballester and Dan Brown should both return to the squad after missing the last couple of games and Lance could have pretty much a full squad to choose from.
Our visitors play in the Midland Football League Premier Division and are currently mid-table. To get to this stage of The Vase they have overcome Bolehall Swifts (2-0), Chelmsley Town (5-2), Brocton (4-1) and Leighton Town (4-0), all at home. Recent league form hasn’t been great though with 3 defeats on the bounce but as we all know, form means nothing in the Cup!
If we’re all square after 90 minutes tomorrow we will play 30 minutes of extra time. If there’s still now winner after that then we will replay on Tuesday evening at Town’s Sports Ground home.
