Cambridge City are our next opponents as we play our final pre-season game on Saturday afternoon at The Glassworld before our 2017/18 league campaign kicks off at Wroxham next Tuesday evening.
Manager Lance Key continues to build his squad as the big kick off approaches and has confirmed that defenders Will Lawton and Sheldon Weiman along with keeper Owen Peck and midfielders Joe Sutton and Taher Ali all signed on the dotted line ahead of Tuesday’s game against St Neots Town. Lance was delighted to add to his squad “Will brings experience and quality to the squad whilst Sheldon is an impressive right sided defender who can do well for us” he said. “Owen Peck has really impressed me and has shown great improvement during his time as a Scholar here so I’m pleased to have him with the squad. Joe Sutton has been knocking on the door for a while and was outstanding for the Scholars last year. He also had a successful spell at Potton as well as a few games for us last season and he’s shown real promise in pre-season and is another good signing. Taher Ali has also impressed and done well when he’s had the chance. He’s another of our Scholars and did well to set up the goal on Tuesday night against St Neots.”
Lance was also pleased with how his team performed against St Neots, “we looked strong and competitive” he said “and there wasn’t much in it for the first hour. As ususal it’s always going to be difficult when you make a load of substitutions but those who came on also did well in the half hour they had. We’re geting very close now to the season starting and it’s important that we are ready and hit the ground running from the kick off at Wroxham and the team is coming together nicely. Saturday against City will be another big test for us but it will be a good game I’m sure.”
