Possibly Histons best display of the season unfortunately ended in defeat as their early opening goal was cancelled out with a couple of cases of bad luck against championship hopefuls Acle.
Histon led after 10 minutes when some nice link up play in the Acle half between Kirstie Smith and Jordanne Sillitoe left the ball at the feet of Amanda Binge, who shot right footed with the outside of her boot, past the despairing keeper into the bottom far right corner.
Acle managed to get the ball more into the Histon half after a quarter of an hour & on 22 minutes, levelled with a speculative volley on the turn from the edge of the area that left goalkeeper Keeley Robinson with no chance of a save.
The second half was just as evenly balanced as the first, even with the home linesman waving his flag thwarting a number of attacking chances, and Sophie Lanham hitting a 25 yard free kick against the bar with the keeper stranded in the 68th minute.
With 76 minutes gone, fortune again shone on the home side, a melee breaking out in the Histon penalty area and, a couple of lucky ricochets later the ball fell to the feet of a striker less than six yards out and she netted what was to be the winning goal when a draw would have been a fare result.
The return fixture at the Glassworld Stadium on Wednesday 19th of April, ko 8pm could be pivotal for both teams, Acle to have chance of the title, & Histon for there survival.
